No Worry Doll        2017

Return to Sender products is a Social Enterprise company who empower communities of women with great handicraft skills by commissioning products from them. In the course of a company refresh, Return To Sender approached a number of designers to designnew products: Meindertsma was asked to design a version of a traditional worry dollfor Guatemalan craftswomen to produce.

Meindertsma used offcuts of fabrics donated by a number of large textile manufacturers, as well as from Guatemalan company The New Denim Project. She created simple patterns that make use of the edges and other parts of the fabric that are usually considered unusable leftovers, making them a feature by utilising their frayed ends to form ‘wild’ bodies and hair.
