1340G Tablecloth        2008

When asked to create a product in celebration of the Textilemuseum in Tilburg’s 50th anniversary Meindertsma chose to reflect on the use of common and less-than-common plant-based yarns in textile design. Her resulting tablecloth depicts the plants; bamboo, hemp, cotton, flax and seaweed, that are used for making these yarns. Integrated into the pattern are the plant names, their country of origin and the percentage of their use in the yarns. The name of the tablecloth refers to its weight.

Meindertsma worked closely with the weavers in the Textilemuseum’s Textile Lab to develop a special weave for their Jacquard looms. The tablecloth and napkins are part of the Textilemuseum’s permanent collection and also currently in production. (link)
