A permanent installation and a souvenir pigeon forthe new Texture, museum about flax and the river Leie in Kortrijk.
The installation consists of 200 pigeons spread across the building, inspired by the traveling and espionage pigeons that were locked into the building of the Linen Thread Company – which today is Museum Texture – during the First World War. The material for each pigeon is custommade by carpetproducer Josvanneste one of the last yarnspinners in Belgium. The pigeons themselves are made by a group of enthousiastic volunteers of the museum.
The souvenir pigeon is made of linen fabric woven by two different flax weavers in Belgium, each fabric has its own structure. The pigeons are hand made in The Netherlands and are filled with flax seeds. These pigeons are sold by t.e.
